Boosting dietary diversity for mood

For awhile I settled on running on pure lentil and green power. It was sustenance but I agree with findings that the dietary diversity score (DDS) correlates strongly with anxiety and depression and in one study, a one-unit increase in DDS was associated with a 39% reduction in the risk of severe depression [1].

In a world that often wants to wear you down to a catatonic shell of a depressed human, finding achievable ways to boost self-worth, to treat yourself with kindness and respect and boost mood healthily are important

For one, eating the same food too often blunts all food novelty related dopamine efflux and leaves you with a monotonous diet lacking in spectrums of nutrition, phytochemicals, sensory enrichment etc which is depressing in itself. That's why I've started to get back into putting some weird, wacky and interesting things other than lentils and greens

For one appreciating things like my seaweeds, which are a rich source of several bioactive compounds including phytosterols, carotenoids, and polysaccharides with neuro-active properties and are of interest as potential dietary supplementary noninvasive treatments for depression and CNS disorders [2] That said, they can be high in iodine so respect appropriate serving sizes

Also things like daily chai spice beverages with cinnamon, cloves, raw honey etc
