Updated: Dec 20, 2020

I've been given the opportunity to help with Christmas gifts.

I've got some new additions like Gynostemma pentaphyllum Gynostemma pentaphyllum (jiaogulan) has neuroprotective, antidepressant, anti-stress and anxiolytic effects. It also seems to have notable antidiabetic effects. While once thought of as a cheap replacement for ginseng, many have proclaimed it “The King of Adaptogens”.

In humans, a dose equivalent to ~2g/day dried herb (200mg extract) significantly reduced the generalised propensity to be anxious or “anxiety prone” inducing general states of calmness, confidence, and security, without influence on the current and transitory state of anxiety including subjective feelings of apprehension, tension, nervousness, worry, and activation/arousal of the autonomic nervous system in subjects with chronic stress. It significantly reduced anxiety and stress in groups of high anxiety and normal individuals by over 20% and 10% respectively.

It is said to be an effective treatment for insomnia in folk medicine, particularly from excessive stress or anxiety, it was found to improve sleep with an effective rate of 89 – 95%.

This may be at the lower end of the effective dose, 6 g/day, in divided doses twice a day has been recommended

and Lobelia cardinalis

Lobinaline, the major alkaloid present in L. cardinalis, as the most abundant constituent (70.15%). The unique combination of pharmacological effects (i.e. nAchR partial agonism and DAT inhibition). It is proposed to be beneficial for disorders affecting the dopamine system like Parkinson's
