Games for cognitive stimulation and rehabilitation?




In general, video games are an effective intervention for global cognition stimulation, with relevant results also on reaction time, processing speed, executive function, and attention.


I'm not typically a gamer of any sort because I've found it too challenging to get into. It's been really interesting, after a suggestion from a support worker, that even with my severe cognitive issues, I can still manage Tetris.


The ‘flow’ state is reached and can help alleviate negative feelings including anxiety and Tetris's immersive simplicity makes it a potentially powerful therapeutic tool. It has been suggested as a tool against cravings, too.


I tend to agree with findings that people felt more relaxed than after 10 minutes of mindfulness and contrary to mindfulness, it helped improve energy levels [1]


It's personally a good goal-oriented task to build focused attention away from hallucinations


Tetris is a highly visuospatial game that activates regions of the brain associated with visuomotor processes, including sensory‐motor cortex and occipitoparietal brain regions and involves the processing of information (e.g. mental rotation) in addition to storage


Tetris improved one of two measures of attention and the measure of visuo-spatial ability


Tetris game play has shown particular promise in reducing the number of intrusive memories of traumatic events.


Different game-elements have been proposed to be beneficial for neuropsychological rehabilitation [2]
